What are shell pearls?

Shell pearls are a beautiful victory by science over the capriciousness of mother nature for two major reasons: Firstly, it perfectly reproduced the incandescence of the natural south sea/tahitian pearls and secondly, it can be purchased at cost that is affordable to every lover of fine jewelry without sacrificing the looks of the genuine pearls.

Shell pearls begin as a shell nucleus from an oyster, using the exact same nucleus that real saltwater culture pearls use. In the creation of shell pearls, craftsmen take over the lenghty layering process from the oyster by carefully coating the precious nucleus with microscopic layers of iridescent synthesised mother of pearl (the nacre of oysters) until a perfect gem is achieved.

Shell pearls consist of synthesised mother of pearl with exactly the same nucleus as a cultured pearl. Our shell pearls are finished with a double coating of protective layer which increases the shell pearl's resistance to friction, erosion and fading.

Our shell pearls have the same warmth to the skin feeling, lustous glow and allure as the cultured pearls. Shell pearls are costly too, sometimes they are more expensive than Cultured pearls.

Introduction to SHINEA DESIGNERS

Amanda Zeng

After Amanda Zeng got her bachelor’s degree in arts at Dongxiang University, she has been working as a painting teacher at an elementary school and a jewelry design teacher at community college. Amanda has been helping her family making and selling her handcrafted jewelry in her hometown for over 5 years. All of her pieces are either original designs themselves or significantly adapted cultural pieces done by herself. Her inspirations come from a variety of sources from the joyful kids around her, and art Manuscripts such as the Book of Kells, and photographs of actual artifacts.

Arlene Zeng

Arlene Zeng got her Master’s degree in Architecture two years ago. “I love to work with my sister. Our passion towards jewelry design is from our family jewelry business. My thoughts have been influenced by the Fallingwater house, which was built by Frank Lloyd Wright. The beauty of nature is really impressive. In jewelry design, I try to achieve the balance between the ocean and the land. The sea can be powerful and fierce or smooth and gentle. Nature responds by creating beaches of pebbles or soft sand. This balance has inspired my jewelry to combine patterns and textures, geometric shapes and a pallet of colors to capture each mood.“
